Assistant head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, Jon Gruden, resigned after emails containing racist and homophonic content were discovered in his emails. The emails were sent before he was hired in 2018. Gruden was in the middle of a 10 year 100 million dollar contract until he decided to use language that is clearly not acceptable in the time period in which we live.
After the emails were released for the public to see, Gruden put out a statement as seen below:
Although statements like these are released when any one in any organization makes a mistake, it is still necessary. The information shown in the emails proves that the coaches are completely unethical which in turn diminished the reputation of the organization as a whole. He used homophobic and racists terms when discussing the potential of drafting certain players.
Jon Gruden went on to criticize the NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in several diminishing ways that resulted in him having to giving up his job. The ethical issues in this scenario prove that the coaching staff are not examples of people with a good character which is a terrible look for both the coaches and the players.
