When can you tell if somebody is greedy? When already have millions of dollars and are asking for more? This is what is going on in the National Football League(NFL).
The shut down of the NFL is stirring all kinds of controversy in the media and around the office. Even if you do not like football, this company produces 9 billion dollars annually.
THATS THREE COMMAS… 9 ZEROS….AND…. A NINE!
The players decimated their union shortly after Greenbay Packers won the supper bowl(2011). They are asking for more money, but in forms of retirement benefits and better health care. The owners of the teams along with the rest of the head honchos of the league want more games without giving the players more money.
This is a recession, how many companies have ask their employees to increase their work load without a raise? Take the media outlets, they now want multimedia journalist. That means, they want a reporter who can: write his or her stories, shoot the stories, and edit the stories. “Rumors” have it that Channel 8 News hired a college graduate from USF to do the list from the pervious sentence along with placing her stories on the web all for $22,000 a year. This is a rumor, but a wake up call to anybody wanting to join a news room.
So, should the players “grab a straw and suck it up,” or, should they keep the fight going until they achieve their goals? The NFL producing more games a session means more people back in the stands. These are not free seats for the fans, but regular if not more expensive ticket prices. If the NFL is increasing their revenue, then why not give the players a retirement plan?
“You don’t have a league without the players, their voices should be heard. If you are going to give them the same amount of money to play more games… I have an issue with that… I hope it gets resolved because of the financial impact it would have in the community, not just here, but everywhere in the United States and the world. Think about: the parking guy, to the box office people, and to people selling cokes. There is so many people that the lockout would effect.”

Are you still convince that this is something to ignore?
Neither the league nor the players are willing to budge from this stalemate. Associated Press reported earlier this week that federal magistrate will oversee court-ordered mediation between the NFL and the players. This issue has reach the federal level.
This nation is in trillions of dollars in debt and we cannot afford to miss out on $9,000,000,000!
